Welcome to Phoenix Flying Club.
Phoenix Flying Club is more than a place to fly an airplane — it is a community built around a shared passion for aviation, adventure, ownership, and the camaraderie that has always made general aviation special.
Our story began in 2018, when Fort Meade Flying Activity came to an end. Rather than allow decades of aviation history and friendship to disappear with it, a determined group of FMFA pilots came together and purchased the club’s Piper PA-28-236 Dakota. From those ashes, Phoenix Flying Club was born.
Today, PFC operates from Hangar 80 at Tipton Airport (KFME) in Odenton, Maryland, bringing together experienced aviators, newer pilots, instructors, and aviation enthusiasts in a member-owned flying club. Our members share both the benefits and responsibilities of aircraft ownership while enjoying access to a capable, well-equipped cross-country aircraft without taking on the expense and commitment of ownership alone.
Present Day and Beyond
What began as a small group of stubborn dreamers determined to keep flying has grown into a close-knit, members-only club of approximately 15–16 equity owners. Together, our members proudly care for the aircraft, support one another as pilots, and carry forward the memories and traditions of what was once a formidable flying community at Fort Meade.
But Phoenix Flying Club is not simply about preserving the past. It is about building what comes next.
The laughter can once again be heard around the hangar. The Dakota regularly lifts from Tipton's runway for weekend adventures, cross-country trips, training flights, and the occasional flight with no better reason than the sky looked too good to stay on the ground. And when the sun begins to set behind the pine trees surrounding Fort Meade, there is still something unmistakably familiar about seeing one of our members turning final for Runway 28.
